| Re: Chang StoriesFrom: Matthias Comments
Lets get on with it. I think a good story can be begin with Tai
Yee 91st birthday celebration - the gathering of the clan. We then telescope back to various historical
periods of the chang clan. The first part would be from the point of
view of Tai Yee and my mum (the womens' experience getting into the Chang clan).
This is interspersed with our Grandma's experience with Grandfather (ie our
father's father). That will bring us back to china. Then relate
to their experience as overseas chinese in Malaysia - the war years etc,
colonial times etc. The book essentially is a time travel sort of
book, going backwards and forwards, always coming back to the 91st birthday
celebrations. This occasion will then take on a special significance as towards
the end of the book, we the clan prepares the next generation for the 21st
century and beyond - we fictionalise the celebrations a bit (this is over
several days, which is partly true as the clan were gathered in KL over several
days) to include:- 1) Certain key tenets of the Clan; 2) Our Heritage 3) Our successes and failures (the bumps
along the way) 4) Should emphasise on the matriach side of
things - this is our strength especially during the feudal years and
environment. 5) Coming of age etc This should be discerned from several
conversations between members of the clan and recollections etc.
