 | Stephen's New Kitchen
In 2001 Stephen has splashed out on his passion for cooking - a brand new
kitchen with a price tag beyond the reach of most of us. The old
kitchen has been extended and now has a utility room and all the modern
gadgets you can think of. The piece de resistance is his new cooker.
The cooker has SIX gas hobs, a special hob for cooking fish, and a
barbecue hob. There are two ovens and grills!!! He has also
installed a steaming gadget that will steam sea food among others
ingredients. All you have to do is add water and then turn a timer
dial and voila you have the most exquisitely steamed sea bass! Click
here for pictures
He has also extended the first floor of his house which now has a new shower
and a walk-in wardrobe.
(Pictures of the kitchen when the web photographer gets an invite. I
understand that a grand Chinese New Year bash has been planned.)

 | Stephen's firm Morison Stoneham
makes history in the City with Tenon
The Financial Times 09/09/2000 reported that Tenon, a shell company set-up
to buy smaller accounting firms, yesterday announced its first acquisition -
Morison Stoneham the city accounting firm whose Chairman is Stephen
Chang.
Tenon, which floated on Aim in March, plans to offer services such as
corporate finance and tax advice as well as e-commerce and internet
consultancy.
The group has bought the non-audit businesses of Morison Stoneham, a
private partnership based in London's Finsbury Circus, for Pounds 10.3m in
cash and shares.
Stephen, who for many years led Morison Stoneham as the Managing Partner
and recently as its Chairman said, "Our vision for the future of
business services coincides with that of Tenon. As a forward-looking
practice, we are excited by the prospects of providing enhanced services to
benefit our clients. The resource and support available within Tenon will
enable us to do this."
This is a very innovative deal and Morison and Stoneham is the first
accountancy firm to be quotes on the Stock Exchange as a result of this
deal.
Stephen led Morison Stoneham to diversify from an accounting and audit
firm to one that provided a whole range of services including corporate
finance, consultancy, personal financial planning, outsourcing and internal
audit and recruitment advice to its clients ("the General
Practice") and specialises in taxation, corporate recovery and
insolvency. There are nineteen partners and 142 staff operating out of four
offices, one in each of the City of London, Chelmsford, Guildford and
Swindon. Over the two financial years since 30 April 1998, the turnover of
Morison Stoneham has increased by 25% from £7.9 million to £9.8 million
and the operating profit by 131% from £1.4 million to £3.1 million.

Well done Stephen - we are very proud of you!! |
 | Yen and Mike wedded
It was a splendid wedding with ALL that made up a wonderful occasion - the setting was beautiful, the decorations and trimmings lavish and detailed, the bride sparkling and radiant, the groom brimming with happiness, the bridesmaids pretty and chic, the parents transparently proud and happy, the speeches excellent, the wines flowing, the food delectable, the atmosphere was one of happiness and warmth, joy and laughter, a relaxed family occasion in the midst of all the splendid elegance. This is just an encapsulation of a day that Yen is so deserving of (as her Papa said so well in his speech) and which Bernice and Stephen have given so much love and attention to achieve and which we are so happy to have attended. Very many thanks.
Many congratulations to Yen and Mike and proud parents Bernice, Stephen and
Barbara! Click here for wedding photos.

 | Birth Announcement
Baby has been named - Sebastian John Han-Jin Kilmartin - 11/09/20000
On behalf of David, Jo, Tristan and Jordan, Cheng Hai and I are very
pleased to announce the arrival of Baby Kilmartin, a healthy, handsome
boy, on 2nd. September 2000, at approx. 1.43 am., weighing 2.49kg ie
5.8lbs. and 47.5cm. long.( We were asked to make the announcement as
David's monitor has busted, he is on leave and it's also the weekend).
He is not at all wrinkly when we saw him at 11.30am this morning. He
looks more like Tristan, his mouth especially, but has quite a high nose
like Jordan's. He didn't open his eyes when we were there but certainly
has very deep double eyelids.
Jo was very tired but her pelvis is not as bad as when she had Jordan as
this baby is fortunately very small, however she isn't very mobile and
is given a walking frame to help her walk to the toilet. Definitely no
visitors this weekend, only family (adults, so the boys have not seen
their little baby brother ). Oh yes, David said both of them cheered
when told they have a little brother.
I made her double-boiled chicken soup for lunch and I'm bringing her
more soup, chicken in ginger and wine and rice for her dinner. Very
fortunately, David's firm made some of the workers take voluntary
holidays and so he has the next two weeks off. While Jo is in hospital,
I told him to drop by at my house in the morning to take soup and lunch
for her after he has dropped the boys off at school.
When Jo and baby get discharged, they'll come to my house and since it's
still my school term, David will drop in to heat up and serve the
pre-cooked meals and help out with the baby. I told him he will have
quality time with his wife and new baby as no-one will be around!! He can bring the boys over after school. Anyway we can work out a happy
arrangement to make sure that Jo has plenty of rest, good food and help
during her confinement.
The baby is very clever as it is very good timing. By the time David's 2
weeks' leave is over I'll have my 2 weeks' holiday and this covers the
whole month. Couldn't have ask for better!!.
By proud grand mother Angeline

 | Richard back from Himalayas
Richard returned from the Himalayas on August 13, 2000. It was an
excellent experience. He made it to over 5,800 meters but could not get to
the top of Pisang Peak as he couldn't breathe. He had to wait on a
ledge for four hours until the others returned from the top. It was
already too high for him to go back to High Camp on his own. Of the 20
boys that started only 12 left Base Camp. Altitude sickness was a
major problem.
|
 | JO, David and the two boys have arrived safely in Singapore at
8.00am(local time) July 20, 2000.
I just spoke to Jo on the phone and she said she didn't sleep much on the plane but slept and rested in their friend Terry's house. They had
dinner at home cooked by Terry's Mum who lives with terry.
They will be having dinner with Justin on Saturday. News
Flash from Angeline

 | News from Olivia and Victor
Olivia left on Sunday afternoon (July 2nd) for her 27 hr flight from Melbourne to Stockholm via Singapore and London. She should be in Stockholm right now carrying a backpack which together with her still weighs altogether less than
me (Victor)
I (Victor) am working this week at the Australian Linguistics Institute annual conference. This gets me free registration and also provides me with useful experience should I get into the furniture removals industry. I am still also working for a catering company feeding hungry pensioners on weekends.
Olivia would like her name removed from the Chang mail list while she is away. If anyone wishes to send her a personal email please feel free. Please do not include
Victor's address on the mail list either as his account is the same as that
for the family - to avoid two sets of emails.

 | Mei's has been awarded a
BSc(Hons) Upper II today
(26/06/2000).
The result was announced today. She has spent the past year doing
her intercalated BSc in Infection and Immunity. The course involved
lectures and a practical project. In her project she had to change the
genetic make up of certain strains of tuberculosis bacteria and study the
effects. The idea being these experiments is that in order to develop
better drugs, it is necessary to know which bits of the 'bug's' genes is
responsible for producing resistance to drugs. With her degree under
her belt, she will be proceeding to her clinical studies this autumn.
Congratulations and Well Done Mei!

 | Tai Yee's 90th Birthday
The Chang Clan gathered in KL to celebrate Tai Yee's 90th birthday on April
22nd, 2000. It was a very good opportunity to meet up with family
members from the UK, Canada, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. Some
of us of not met for nearly 20 years. The young Changs had a great
time partying and doing fun things led by Michael.
The celebration was held at the Equatorial Hotel with over 100 family and
guests attending. The dinner was preceded by a traditional tea
ceremony where Tai Yee was honoured by having tea served by members of the
family. It did cost her as she had to give Ang Paos to everyone.
There was a lovely birthday cake with 90 candles. It was quite an
achievement that they were put out by obe big breath.
There were impromptu speeches during the dinner. One of the most
amusing and memorable was that by Rosa. She reccounted that her
earliest memories of her mother was that she was almost constantly having
morning sickness!
There were so many Chang's staying at the Shangri-La Hotel that it was
renamed Changri-La for the duration of the celebrations.
|

Stephen and Bernice have just returned from a Far East trip when they
visited Myanmar (Burma). Stephen attended a conference at Yangon
(Rangoon) before visiting Mandalay and to the Shan state where they saw the
lovely Lake Inley. According to Stephen, Yangon was rather boring but
Lake Inley was beautiful and interesting.

 | Holiday in Brittany
Between 21st August and 4th September, Rene, Helen, Mei,
Richard, Robert and Jean (Helen's Mum) and Tony, Lulu, Christopher, Joanna
and Dolly (Lulu's Mum) and Jenny, Daniel and Elaine stayed in a chateau in
Brittany. The gang went in 3 cars and were joined at various times by
friends of Mei, Richard and Helen. There was a swimming pool where
Robert had his first swim and a billard tables on which much time was spent.
The food was good, Tony and Rene being the chefs - Tonyn usually in the

Much sea food was consumed, including 4 dozen osters at one sitting at
Concale.
